It's summer, the season of fun and, of course, iced tea, so imagine our relief after trying to quaff the horrendous Nestea "Plunge In" campaign when J. Walter Thompson/New York quenched our yock-parched palates with Lipton's nutty "Kung Who" spot, starring David Carradine in a spry "Kung Fu" parody.

In this refreshing :45, directed by HKM's Graham Henman, Carradine is approached by a trio of thugs who threaten to sip his iced tea-a mortal mistake, for Lipton "ain't no sippin' tea," as the slogan goes. Carradine proceeds to physically humiliate the fools in grand Stooges style, replete with eye pokes, head smashes, face slaps and plenty of aural Curly cues-all after hurling his bottle of Lipton in the air, only to casually catch it when he's done pummeling.

Group creative director Frank Constantini, who AD'd, says the humor is something of a repositioning of Lipton as the "iconoclast of the category." Other credits to GCD/writers J.J. Jordan and Brian Sitts.
