Other 1997 award winners from the Ad Age Group include Saatchi & Saatchi Singapore, named International Agency of the Year by Ad Age International, and Hensley Segal Rentschler, Cincinnati, named Agency of the Year by Business Marketing. Creativity earlier this year also selected TBWA Chiat/Day as Agency of the Year.

Fun-loving creative for a broad mix of regional clients, including Visa International, Du Pont Co. and Hewlett-Packard Corp., plus a range of local advertisers, made the Singapore agency stand out among a record 80 entries from around the world.


Regional Creative Director Dave Droga, 29, credits the Singapore agency's success to quirky work, inspired no doubt by the agency's location in a former nightclub. There, each creative member toils in a former karoke booth.

Brazil produced the competition's two runners-up. They were Almap/ BBDO Comunicacoes in Sao Paulo and DM9 DDB Publicidade, also Sao Paulo. See stories on the winners and runners-up in AAI March 30.

Hensley Segal Rentschler, also named Business Marketing's Agency of the Year in 1994, was chosen for its strong work in new media and its efforts at offering clients an integrated approach to advertising and marketing by combining new media with traditional business-to-business tools.

Its clients include General Electric Aircraft Engines; Makino, marketer of high-technology tools; Pall Corp., marketer of filtration and separation technologies; and Cincinnati Bell communications technologies work.
