Hasbro launches Web sites for five interactive games

To generate pre-release interest for five new interactive game titles, Hasbro Interactive launched companion Web sites for four of them last week, with the fifth to follow later this month.

Monopoly Star Wars, Frogger, Beastwars and Pictionary will be under the Hasbro Interactive umbrella at the new Web site, which goes online Nov. 10.

The games begin debuting shortly thereafter and will continue to roll out through next year in CD-ROM format. Beastwars and Frogger will also be available in Sony Play Station format "These are games that appeal to the demographic using the Internet," said Whitney Grimm, director of Internet for Hasbro International, the parent company of Hasbro Interactive.

"We know that particularly people interested in playing online games are eagerly awaiting the release of some of our new games like Frogger and Monopoly Star Wars. The Web sites help build the excitement."

The new sites were constructed by Poppe Tyson, New York, whose aim is to build online communities for the games and the company.

"What Hasbro means to families is the living room. One of the approaches is to extend the nuclear family and connect their living rooms," said John Young, Poppe Tyson director of creative services.

The new Web sites include features such as tips for gamers; graphics and interactivity that mimic each game; and links to interactive multiplayer gaming provided through Hasbro Interactive's agreement with Microsoft Internet Gaming Zone.
