IAB sets privacy guidelines

The Internet Advertising Bureau, New York, on July 5 released its recommended privacy guidelines, addressing issues related to privacy policy; consumer choice and consent; data quality and access; use of data; data security; and cross-border data transfer. While specific member policies may be customized, the Net ad group said, members' privacy initiatives will need to address all of these elements. Full text of the guidelines is posted at www.iab.net. The IAB said the guidelines are minimum acceptable standards to protect the privacy of users. The guidelines will be discussed at an IAB Privacy Forum July 12 in San Francisco; IAB held a similar event in New York last week. "In effect, we have established a baseline for IAB member companies to ensure the protection of [an] individual's privacy," IAB Chairman Rich LeFurgy said in a statement.
