LONDON -- International Distillers and Vintners, Grand Metropolitan's drinks business, has drafted Alan Cordery back into its ranks to the new position of global marketing and strategy director.

Cordery, who will take up his post on January 1, joins the company he left in 1994 from South African food company Molinos Rio de la Plata, which is headquartered in Argentina. Cordery, currently the company's vice president, has previously worked at Ogilvy & Mather, management consultants McKinsey & Co and PepsiCo, and between 1991 and 1994 as managing director of IDV-owned AED in Spain.

His appointment follows IDV's decision to align the strategic planning function more closely with the intrnational marketing of IDV'S brands. He will be based in London and report directly to IDV Chief Executive Jack Keenan as a member of the IDV executive committee.
