'IHT', 'FAZ' expand alliance with joint ad sales deal

LONDON--The International Herald Tribune (IHT) and the Frank-furter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) have expanded their alliance to include a joint advertising sales package.

The package, available worldwide, offers advertisers the opportunity of buying ads in both papers at a 12.5% discount off their rate card prices in addition to volume discounts.

The two papers announced last October their plans to launch an Englishlanguage edition of FAZ in October. The edition supplement is scheduled to appear by the end of March in all copies of the IHT distributed in Germany and Austria.

Advertising sales in Germany will now be handled by Leadermedia Deutschland, the new ad sales agency formed by FAZ that has absorbed the IHT's German sales team. FAZ Advertisement Director Wolf-Dietrich Auerbach andThomas Schlueter, the IHT's general manager in Germany, have become jointmanaging directors of the agency.

Commenting on the initiative, Stephen Dunbar-Johnson, advertising director of the IHT, says: "Never before has there been an opportunity for advertisers to reach governments and boardrooms both around the world and in Europe's largest economy through one purchase point. LeaderAlliance makes for a compelling package in anybody's language."
