Infoseek unveils new targeting service

Infoseek Corp. launched Ultramatch, an ad targeting service. Infoseek, which has licensed the technology from the Aptex division of HNC Software, is immediately offering a service called Clickseek, which evaluates where users are clicking and then serves specific ads based on click patterns. A second service, Eyeseek, will be available by this fall and will help advertisers to target ads to individuals in specific behavior groups, such as entertainment seekers, business seekers, etc.

Agencies including Western International Media, Poppe Tyson, Modem Media, Anderson & Lembke and Four Points Digital are using the technology. Infoseek currently charges $55 per thousand impressions for the service, although the price is soon expected to increase.

Separately, Infoseek this week launches Infoseek Germany as a localized version of its search engine. The company also has alliances for other localized services including Infoseek France (with Objectif Net), Infoseek Italia (with Matrix), Infoseek UK (with Associated Newspapers) and Infoseek Japan (with Digital Garage).
