(March 30, 2001) -- The U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Va., ruled in favor of Motorola in a trademark dispute over its brand new "Intelligence Everywhere" global tagline.

MicroStrategy, a Vienna, Va.-based database software provider, claimed trademark rights infringement but its request for a preliminary injunction was denied. Though MicroStrategy has been using the trademark in advertising for three years, it only filed for the trademark in January, three months after Motorola did.

"Motorola is confident that it will prevail on the merits of this case when it is returned to the District Court," the company said in a statement. "Motorola acted in good faith throughout this process." Courts have denied MicroStrategy's two previous requests for an injunctions barring Schaumburg, Ill.-based Motorola from using the tagline. -- Tobi Elkin
