Kinko's corp., trying to attract a bigger share of the home office and mobile professional market, is teaming up with Hotmail to provide high speed Web-based e-mail and communications services.

Kinko's, Ventura, Calif., earlier this month began placing Hotmail on the Internet default page of computers at the company's 850 stores nationwide. The Internet push follows Kinko's September launch of its "New Way to Office" campaign from agency Hal Riney & Partners Heartland, Chicago, which is intended to show off the company's technological as well as business service offerings.

Advertising for the Kinko's-Hotmail campaign was produced in-house with help from a number of specialty shops.


Kinko's charges $12 per hour to use its PCs and Apple computers, but will add no extra fees to use the Internet service. The affiliation allows customers to detach documents from their e-mail for editing, printing or processing.

The agreement follows Kinko's installation of high speed Internet connections at its branches nationwide, as well as installation of Netscape's Navigator browsers on all its computers.

The new service will be marketed with point-of-purchase materials in stores as well as on screen savers on Kinko's machines. In addition, online advertising, including cooperative marketing with Netscape, and mailings to 300,000 customers will be part of the launch, said Elizabeth Armstrong, manager-direct marketing at Kinko's.
