J. Crew launches commerce catalog site

J. Crew launched a transactional Web site for its catalog and will support the launch with a two-week test campaign. While J. Crew built the site in-house, i33 Communications, New York, handles media buying and planning and will launch a banner campaign July 1 on search engines, Conde Nast's Swoon, Women's Wire and various online zines.

Brian Sugar, who directs the cataloger's online marketing, said banners are "very white-space oriented, very J. Crew" and will use khakis, thongs and other "summer basics" to motivate women and younger online shoppers to visit the site. One banner will use pull-down menus to let users go directly into specific sections of the catalog.
