John Marcom takes helm of Time Inc. International

LONDON--John Marcom has been named president of Time Inc. International, a newly created post, according to Norman Pearlstine, editor-in-chief of Time. and head of the company's international operations.

Mr. Marcom, who will relocate to London from Hong Kong, was most recentlypresident of Time Inc. Asia, responsible for Time Asia, Asiaweek, Fortune Asia, President Inc. in Japan and Emphasis Inc., a Hong Kong-based company producing magazines and programming for Asian airlines.

In his new position, Mr. Marcom will assume all of Richard Atkinson'sresponsibilities as president of Time Inc. Atlantic, overseeing Time Inc.'smagazine-publishing activities in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, while maintaining his current responsibilities in Asia.

Mr. Atkinson was recently named CFO of Time Inc.

Marty Gardner, president of Time Inc. South Pacific in Australia, and HughWiley, president of Time Inc. Latin America, will now report to Mr. Marcom, as will New York-based Time Inc. International exec VPs John Vlachos andDavid Stark.

Mr. Marcom joined Time Inc. Asia as development director in 1993, serving in a variety of marketing and business development roles before becomingpublisher of Time Asia.

Since his appointment as president of Time Asia in 1998, Mr. Marcom has led the relaunch of Bises, a Japanese gardening magazine, and launched Time-branded English language study guides in Taiwan and China.

He was also instrumental in the establishment of a new Web site,, a comprehensive, multimedia online news and information site covering the Asia Pacific region by combining the resources of CNN Interactive, Time and Asiaweek.
