Johnson & Johnson usurps Unilever from top TV spender spot

BEIJING -- Johnson & Johnson knocked Shanghai United Unilever off the top spot of the biggest spending TV advertisers in Shanghai in December, breaking its run of several months, the Wenhui Daily newspaper reports.

Shanghai United Unilever slipped right out of the Top 12 for December, in the face of competition from big spenders such as the Shanghai Johnson & Johnson Co, which broadcast 361 commercials on the three major Shanghai TV stations and spent a total of $828,801 advertising products including its Johnson & Johnson baby skin care cream, toothbrushes and Band-Aid sticking plaster.

Second was the Guangzhou Proctor & Gamble Co which spent $703,614 on broadcasting 279 commercials for its products such as Oil of Ulay, Grace Shampoo, Pantene Shampoo, Head & Shoulders Shampoo and Safeguard soap.

The Top 12 TV advertisers on the three TV stations during December were all foreign companies or Sino-foreign joint ventures.
