Kerwin named to lead NY bureau of Ad Age

[new york] Ann Marie Kerwin was promoted to New York bureau chief of Advertising Age. Ms Kerwin had been deputy bureau chief and also covered magazine, newspaper and book publishing. She reports to Executive Editor George Vernadakis.

Ms. Kerwin joined Advertising Age in April 1997 as senior editor covering print media. Prior to that, she had been editor in chief of Folio: First Day. She also held reporting positions at Inside Media and Editor & Publisher.

"Ann Marie has covered the worlds of advertising and publishing for the last decade, and she long has been a key member of Ad Age's New York operation," said Mr. Vernadakis. "Her extensive editorial experience will prove invaluable in her new management role."

In addition, two new reporters have joined Advertising Age.

Effective today, New York-based Richard Linnett will cover agencies, with a focus on media specialists. Mr. Linnett was most recently a reporter with Adweek; prior to that, he was a senior editor at Shoot. He has also been a free-lance journalist for several newspapers and magazines, including Details, Penthouse and The Village Voice. Mr. Linnett will report to Ms. Kerwin.

Coinciding with Mr. Linnett's joining the agency reporting team, New York-based reporter Laura Petrecca will add coverage of sports marketing and athletic footwear to her continuing agency beat responsibilities. Los Angeles-based reporter Wayne Friedman will add coverage of the TV industry to his existing entertainment marketing duties.

Also joining Advertising Age today is Chicago-based Kate MacArthur, who will cover the fast-food and soft-drink industries. Ms. MacArthur has worked at a number of marketing-related businesses, including Rhea & Kaiser Marketing Communications, HLB Communications, Deloitte & Touche and Stevens & Knott PR. She is a recent graduate of the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, where she covered the food beat for the Medill News Service. Ms. MacArthur will report to Chicago-based Managing Editor Judann Pollack.

Finally, Scott MacDonald has joined the Advertising Age Dataplace staff as a research coordinator. Mr. MacDonald, who joined the Information Center team five years ago, will be based in Chicago and report to Group Data Manager Kevin Brown.
