KJS Germany reviews $170m media account

BREMEN, Germany -- Kraft Jacobs Suchard has invited several agencies to pitch for its $170m worth of media planning business in Germany. Insiders say KJS may consolidate its massive media planning business with a single agency.

The incumbents are J. Walter Thompson's media department, Ogilvy & Mather's Media Consult and Media Direction, in which BBDO holds a majority stake.

Those receiving invitations to pitch include JWT's media unit, O&M's Media Consult, Michael Conrad & Leo Burnett's media department and Young & Rubicam's Mediapolis. It's unclear whether BBDO's Media Direction has been invited. An insider claims that KJS wants to oust Media Direction because of BBDO's recent acquisition of Hamburg-based G.F.M.O., which handles media buying for KJS rival Tchibo coffee.

Earlier this year KJS moved its media business in France to Carat and in Italy to CIA.
