Kruskopf Olson won the lone gold award allowed by judges and Best of Show for a psychedelic-theme 30-second TV spot for Pet Food Warehouse. The commercial features a cat's experience with catnip and closes with an announcer intoning, "Catnip-still legal in all 50 states."
Nearly 700 ad executives attended the awards show, sponsored by the Advertising Federation of Minnesota and the Art Directors/Copywriters Club of Minnesota.
Hunt Murray won 31 of 133 awards at the competition; second-place Martin/Williams took home 26 awards. Carmichael Lynch, last year's Best of Show recipient and winner of the most awards, took 17 awards to place third, while Bozell and Cevette & Co. won seven honors each to tie for fourth.
The Pet Food Warehouse ad was created by Sue Kruskopf, Kruskopf Olson's president, and copywriter Jarl Olsen. Mr. Olsen, a director at Dublin Productions, is a former Fallon McElligott copywriter.
