Lotus Notes IBM deal

Lotus Development Corp. Friday runs a spread in The Wall Street Journal promoting the benefits to come from its takeover by IBM Corp. ``We always said Lotus Notes had the power to bring companies together,'' reads the ad, created by Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos, Boston. The ad will run over the next week in other papers, including The New York Times, Los Angeles Times and London Times. The software marketer on June 11 succumbed to a $3.5 billion takeover by IBM.

Diane Sawyer's interview Wednesday night with Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley Jackson on ABC's "Turning Point" earned a 29 rating and a 44 share in Nielsen's 33 metered markets. By comparison, ABC's Feb. 10, 1993, prime-time special, "Michael Jackson Talks to Oprah," averaged a 41.1 rating and a 57 share in the Nielsen overnight markets.

Central CEO leaving
Bob Kreek is leaving as president-CEO of Comedy Central, which he helped build into a major cable network success story. Since January, Comedy Central's subscriber base is up by 5 million households to nearly 36 million and ratings are red-hot, with new program launches including cult hit "Absolutely Fabulous." Parent companies MTV Networks and Home Box Office are expected to name Doug Herzog, MTV: Music Television senior VP-programming and president of MTV Productions, to succeed Mr. Kreek, whose future plans are unknown.
