Mazda confirms Euro search

A spokesman at Mazda's European headquarters in Brussels confirmed Monday that Mazda is talking to J. Walter Thompson Co. about handling its European advertising (AA, Sept. 16), currently with a different agency in each market (including Howell Henry Chaldecott Lury in U.K., Young & Rubicam in Netherlands and Rempen & Partner in Germany). "We are looking at the possibility of harmonizing marketing communication across Europe," the spokesman said, adding that Mazda has asked JWT to study the feasibility of such an approach. It is the first sign that Mazda, partly owned by Ford Motor Co. and run by former Ford execs, may use Ford's global agencies, WPP Group's JWT and Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide.
