LONDON -- McCann-Erickson Worldwide has appointed Murray Dudgeon to the newly created post of executive VP and worldwide media operations director, based in New York.

Mr. Dudgeon, a former McCann veteran of 18 years, will join from Classic FM, GWR Group's flagship radio station in the U.K., where he has been managing director since April 1997. His last role at McCann was as European Media Director.

The new position, which gives him a place on the McCann Worldwide Management Board, will include some of the responsibilities previously held by Mark Buckman. Mr. Buckman has returned to his native Australia for personal reasons.

Mr. Dudgeon will work with Ira Carlin, McCann Worldwide's executive VP and worldwide media director, and the Worldwide Media Council "to further develop our global media operations and resources," Mr. Carlin says. "This includes, most importantly, determining how we will go the next step in linking our full array of marketing communications firms with our fast-expanding capabilities in media strategy development and execution."

Mr. Buckman remains a consultant for McCann and will eventually rejoin the company in a different role.
