Xbox 'Jump Rope' Spot First to Win Both Top Honor and Multicultural Award

SAN FRANCISCO ( -- The American Advertising Federation awarded its Best of Show national Addy to McCann Erickson, San Francisco, last night during an awards program hosted by comedian Joe Piscopo that was streamed on the web.

McCann won the award for a "Jump Rope" ad for Microsoft's Xbox 360 that featured the tagline "Jump In" and featured people jumping in to a complicated double-dutch routine. "This is a beautifully crafted piece of work, and the soundtrack is inspired," said Mark Tutssel, worldwide creative director for Leo Burnett and chairman of the 2006 Addy Awards.

The spot also won an Addy Mosaic award for multicultural advertising and is the first spot to win both awards.

Best of Show-International went to Taxi, Toronto, for its "Golf/Office/Coach/Elevator" local-TV campaign for Pfizer Canada for Viagra.

Student spots
AAF also awarded a student Best of Show Addy to Gran Minnis of the Miami Ad School for his "Vespa card insert" magazine ad campaign titled "Mastering City Life." The campaign pictured scenes of city life from magazines with a Vespa card insert stuck in.

Christina Schuett, of the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, won a student Addy special judges design award for "Treat Skincare & Cosmetics" packaging.

The AAF is the oldest national advertising trade association, representing 50,000 professionals in the ad industry. This year, 1,857 entries were judged in the national competition, which the AAF says is the largest advertising competition in the world.
