McCann VPs advance

McCann-Erickson WorldGroup this week promotes two agency veterans to top management posts in New York.

Tony Miller, 58, who has been exec VP-regional director of McCann-Erickson North America since last January, becomes vice chairman of WorldGroup Marketing Communications Companies, a new role.

Mark Gault, 42, succeeds Mr. Miller as regional director of McCann-Erickson North America. Mr. Gault had been executive VP-director of worldwide accounts for McCann-Erickson Worldwide since 1999. Both will report to Jim Heekin, McCann's chairman-CEO.

The moves come at a time when the agency is expanding its portfolio of marketing services divisions, or "corridors," as Mr. Gault and Mr. Miller call them.

"Managers of our advertising agency system are doing night duty on the growth of the corridors. Now Jim Heekin is beefing up WorldGroup to handle the growth of that business," said Mr. Miller, who will oversee WorldGroup's health care, recruitment communications and public-relations groups. Mark Dowley, who also holds the vice chairman title at WorldGroup, already manages its brand consulting, e-services, events and relationship marketing groups.

In his new role, Mr. Gault will head up North American operations for the ad agency. Whether an individual or a group of executives assume his former worldwide account director role has not been decided, Mr. Gault said.

Both men's career paths are paved with assignments in McCann's global offices. Mr. Gault began his McCann tenure as a management trainee in London, and later headed McCann's London and Tokyo agencies.

Mr. Miller held positions with McCann in Sydney, Australia and New York, and headed MacLaren McCann, Toronto, for which he retains the chairman title. M
