MCI Communications Corp. will bask in Oscar's afterglow with a new-and less obscure-round of TV spots breaking this week featuring Academy Award winner Anna Paquin.

The 11-year-old New Zealander, who grabbed Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in "The Piano," will appear in a third series of commercials for networkMCI, the company's high tech information superhighway brand.

Messner Vetere Berger McNamee Schmetterer/Euro RSCG, New York, said it filmed the latest spots "a few months" ago.

Anna's enhanced fame adds a new dimension to commercials in which she has cavorted, speaking in somewhat ethereal tones about futuristic communications.

Although it's "undetermined" whether MCI and Anna will continue their relationship, the current series is slated to air through May, said agency partner Tom Messner.

One thing certain in this round is that Anna will talk more specifically about MCI's future communications, corporate philosophies and information superhighway services. She will discuss MCI's philosophy of working with other companies to deliver new communications services.
