MMXI releases first web audience measurement figures for Europe

PARIS--MMXI Europe has released results of Internet and online audience ratings for October 1999, based on the number of unique visitors to sites in the U.K., France and Germany.

The top four global domains in the U.K. are Yahoo!, Freeserve, MSN and AOL (a proprietary online service). The top four global domains in Germany are T-Online, Yahoo!, AOL and Microsoft. The top four global domains in France are Wanadoo, Yahoo!, Multimania and Microsoft.

MMXI Europe's audience-measurement research is based on its patented metering methodology that works with a computer's operating system to measure Internet and digital media audience behavior site-by-site, clickby-click and second-by-second. The meter is installed on the home computers of people who have agreed to participate in a research panel and who are representative of Internet and online users in each country.

The company measures reach, frequency, number of unique visitors to a site, length of time spent on a site, number of unique pages visited and socio-demographic profiles of visitors.

Europe is a joint venture between U.S.-based Media Metrix, France's Ipsos and Germany's GfK.
