Motor Trend teams with "The New Dodge" for a series of vintage auto races June 11-13 in Tustin, Calif., at the Marine Corp Air Facility, the site of two huge military blimp hangars that will be closed permanently in July. The admission-only event features several rounds of the 1999 Vintage Auto Racing Association series. On the state-of-the-art side of the industry, the event includes the first-ever battery-power electric car races, with vehicles expected to reach 100 mph; the Electric Vehicle Technology Competitions also will be reprised. DaimlerChrysler's Dodge will provide a "Cars of Tomorrow" exhibit, showcasing production models. A historic auto display will show 103 years of auto transportation, and GT America Bicycles will sponsor a "Bikes, Blades & Boards" stunt show.

Allstate Insurance Co. announced its first national sports marketing sponsorship, backing the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup. The women's world championship of soccer, established in 1991, will be held for the first time in the U.S. this year. It kicks off June 19 and runs through July in eight cities. Major sponsors include Coca-Cola Co. and Fujifilm.

Starbucks Coffee Co. on June 5 will stage a 3-hour party at its 2,200 stores nationwide as its annual kickoff to summer. The party, bigger in scope this year, offers everything from live entertainment to free samples. A two-for-one beverage offer is available with a coupon distributed at stores.

Travel & Leisure Golf links with Bloomingdale's next month for a series of three "Dress Like a Pro" in-store events. A Bloomingdale's insert in the magazine supports each event; the first is June 5-6 at Bloomingdale's flagship store in New York.
