National Geographic Channels hires Star TV execs

HONG KONG--David Haslingden has been named to the newly created post of CEOfor National Geographic Channels International. Ward Platt was appointedmanaging director, Asia, and Tanuka Roy was named assistant VP-marketing,India.

As CEO, Mr. Haslingden will oversee operations in Europe, Asia, Australia,the Middle East, Africa and all other areas outside the U.S. He mostrecently served as exec VP of Star TV, News Corp.'s Asian satellite TVnetwork.

Mr. Platt will be responsible for managing National Geographic's businessoperations throughout Asia and the Middle East. He was previously seniorVP-distribution and business development for Star TV.

Ms. Tanuka will oversee all India marketing plans and activities for thechannel. She was previously assistant VP-research and marketing for Star TVin India. She reports to Deborah Armstrong, VP-marketing, NationalGeographic Channel Asia.

Launched in July 1998, National Georaphic's channel is currentlydistributed to more than 13 million homes on a 24-hour basis across Asiaand 19 million daypart homes in China.

National Geographic Channel Asia's backers include National GeographicTelevision, Fox Entertainment Group and NBC.
