Old Navy seeks new marketing chief

The Gap Inc.'s Old Navy is searching for a new marketing director, following the departure of Exec VP-Marketing Richard Crisman, who helped launch the San Francisco-based retailer's discount division. Mr. Crisman, who is out on medical leave, may return to the company at a later date in a different capacity, a company spokesman said. Mitch Rhodes, senior VP-marketing for The Gap Inc.'s direct unit, will head Old Navy creative on an interim basis. At a recent analysts meeting, Gap CEO Mickey Drexler derided the company's recent marketing efforts, saying it was a mistake to focus on a credit card offer instead of TV advertising and he was looking for more humor in Old Navy ads. At the same time, The Gap Inc.'s Gap division also is looking for a marketing director to succeed Jim Nevins, who left. Amy Schoening, Banana Republic's head of marketing, will oversee Gap brand marketing in the interim. As previously reported, The Gap Inc. has contacted agencies for help on a consulting and project basis.
