National and local spot TV revenues climbed 7% and 9%, respectively, in the first quarter 1995 over the same period a year ago, according to a Television Bureau of Advertising analysis of Competitive Media Reporting data. National spot rose to $1.444 billion from $1.344 billion; local increased to $1.477 billion from $1.353 billion. Automotive remained the largest national spot ad category and rose faster than any other top 10 category, up 23% to $564.4 million. However, 15 of the top 25 national spot categories declined. Among local spot categories, restaurants/drive-ins continued to be the top spender, with a modest 4% gain to $260.6 million.
