New network ADSmart launching

CMG Information Services next week launches ADSmart, an advertising network that will initially consist of 12 Web sites, including Sports Network and the Chat House. No advertisers have yet been signed. Once the ad network is up and running, ADSmart plans to also market its own ad management software to Web sites, in competition with companies like FocaLink, NetGravity and DoubleClick.

ADSmart's launch is several months behind schedule; it was originally slated to be in beta trial last August and roll out last October. "We've been upgrading our software and ensuring that the network is of suitable quality," said Martin Lowrie, president of Boston-based ADSmart.

CMG initially had been working with Ameritech Corp. to develop the ADSmart software. However, the telecommunications company has since backed out of the project.
