(Sept. 8, 2001) -- In a preview of the upcoming season, Viacom's CBS and General Electric Co.'s NBC went head-to-head with new and existing reality shows on Thursday night.

The result? A draw. At 8 p.m., CBS's 4.7 Nielsen rating in adults 18 to 49 for Big Brother 2 beat NBC's 4.1 number for its premiere of Lost. Then at 9 p.m. NBC got back into the game with a 5.5 adults 18 to 49 rating for Fear Factor against CBS's new entry, Amazing Race, which pulled in a 5.0.

All told, the networks both average a 4.8 for the two hours. The big winner of the evening was Walt Disney Co.'s ABC's 20/20 at 10 p.m., which earned a 5.1 adults number. It easily won the hour with an exclusive Barbara Walters' interview of actress Anne Heche. -- Wayne Friedman
