Urban Box Office Networks, a network of sites featuring music, arts and sports, laid off most of its staff after a venture capital company withdrew its offer to participate in a round of financing. UBO's staff of 270 was notified earlier this week that the company was running out of money and was attempting to acquire additional funding. That move was unsuccessful, and on Nov. 2 all staff was laid off except for the executives.

Chicago-based reportedly laid off about 20 people from its staff of 115 from a unit formerly known as Quantum Leap as part of a restructuring due to the merger with Oakbrook, Ill.-based SPR. The company is said to be turning into a unified brand handling Internet marketing, creative, technology and strategy. Calls to company executives were not returned on Nov. 3.
