NFL, Fox to promote broadcasts

The National Football League and Fox Broadcasting plan a 16-week advertiser-linked promotion this fall for the upcoming NFL telecasts on Fox. Partners include General Mills, Foot Locker and United Artists Theaters. Super Bowl tickets will be given away each week of the promotion.

Big G's brands participating are Wheaties, Pop Secret popcorn and, in an effort to attract women, Sweet Rewards baked goods. Offers for caps and shirts touting Fox's "NFL Sunday" will appear on the product packages. Coupons in free-standing inserts supporting the General Mills promo will run in newspapers on four weekends, and the company is considering putting leading NFL players on its Wheaties package. The NFL/Fox promotion will also be the subject of trailers in UA theaters.

At least two series in NBC's fall primetime line-up will also get support in an NFL-related FSI; NBC carries NFL games as well.
