NEW YORK- Ogilvy & Mather Direct staffers took home 12 Caples Awards honoring creative excellence in direct marketing campaigns.

The awards, presented at the New York Hilton last week, went to 43 agency teams after judges narrowed a field of 800 entries.

O&M's lone first-place award, in the consumer print category, went to the New York office for a Book-of-the-Month Club ad. Biederman, Kelly & Shaffer tied for first place in that category for a Lands' End ad.

Other first-place winners: Kirshenbaum & Bond won in the consumer single-medium campaign for Pittsburgh Brewing Co.; J. Walter Thompson Direct in the consumer multimedia category for Sprint; Craik Jones Watson Mitchell Voelkel, London, in the consumer direct mail category for Land Rover; and Direct Resources in the consumer TV category for Childreach.

Among winners in the business-to-business categories, first-place Caples went to Herring/Newman, Seattle, for a Hewlett-Packard Corp. print ad; Stenrich Group, Richmond, Va., for a multimedia campaign for FMC Corp.; and Bronner Slosberg Humphrey, Boston, for a self-promotion direct mailing.
