Ogilvy & Mather expands in China

HONG KONG -- Ogilvy & Mather has reinforced its presence in China by formally opening its office in Shenyang, northeast China. The office, which was established as a shadow team earlier this year, officially opened for business this week. O&M claims to be the first international agency to establish an office in this part of China.

"Traditional markets such as Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou are not China's only source of potential," says Miles Young, O&M regional president, Asia Pacific. "Due to the success of the government's continuing programs of investment and reform across the country, other market opportunities have opened up. We selected Shenyang as the hub for our activities in the region because of its strategic location and proximity to some of our key prospective clients. Looking to the future, there are more state-owned enterprises in northeastern China than any other part of China, We hope to have the opportunity of assisting then.''

Randy Hsiao has been hired away from Bozell, Taiwan, as general manager of the new eight-person office. The Shenyang office will immediately service the Shenyang President Food, Kentucky Fried Chicken and Snowflake Beer accounts.

TB Song, group manager director for O&M greater China, says: "Shenyang is a transportation hub and a merchandise distribution center for over 100 million people, across the three northeastern provinces of Liaoning, Jilin and Heilongjiang, covering the combined area the size of Thailand and Malaysia.''
