OMD wins Reemtsma media business in Asia Pacific

SINGAPORE -- Optimum Media Direction has won the regional media business for Singapore-based client Reemtsma away from CIA Medianetwork following a pitch, even though the agency has not yet set up in Singapore.

The German tobacco company's largest brands in Asia are West and Davidoff and its major markets are Taiwan, where Davidoff is the leading imported tobacco brand, and China. Batey Ads in Singapore continues to handle the creative advertising account.

Optimum Media Direction also won the regional media business for Singaporebased Credit Suisse in July. Combined, the two accounts are worth $8 million to $10 million.

A division of Omnicom, OMD got off the ground in Asia Pacific last spring. "We will be opening OMD Singapore in November; in the meantime, Reemtsma is coordinated from BBDO Singapore," says CEO Asia Mike Cooper, who is based in Hong Kong.

Contestants in the Reemtsma pitch are not known.
