Online media execs nix plan to rate Web content

Some of the largest online publishers in the business on Aug. 28 rejected a plan to rate news content using a traditional entertainment-type scale. At a meeting sponsored by the Internet Content Coalition, The Wall Street Journal Interactive Edition, MSNBC, CNN, ABC, Newspaper Association of America and The New York Times agreed that rating news by categories of sex, violence, nudity and language doesn't work and said they won't participate in any current rating systems.
