Wunderman Cato Johnson Direct said Chairman Lester Wunderman, 77, will retire from the direct marketing agency at the end of the month. He founded the agency, now part of Young & Rubicam, in 1958, is credited with coining the term "direct marketing" in 1967 and was inducted into the Direct Marketing Association's Hall of Fame in 1983. No successor as chairman was named. Barbara Jack directs Wunderman as worldwide CEO.

G. Clifton Pennell has been named president at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co.'s Sports Marketing Enterprises division, succeeding T. Wayne Robertson who died in a boating accident earlier this month. Mr. Pennell was previously senior VP-marketing, savings brands, and is succeeded in that role by Doug Shouse, formerly VP-marketing, Salem. Ronda Plummer was named to succeed him on Salem.
