Stephen Farley to senior VP-chief marketing officer for all department stores and catalogs, a new post at J.C. Penney Co., Plano, Texas, from senior VP-marketing, Payless Shoesource, Topeka, Kan. Mr. Farley will take over the marketing responsibilities formerly held by Gale Duff-Bloom, president of marketing and company communications, now named president of company communications and corporate image.

Tom Danowski, 38, to VP-sales and marketing, Seattle Coffee Co., Seattle, a division of AFC Enterprises, Atlanta. Mr. Danowski most recently was group director-imported wine, for Chateau Ste. Michelle, Columbia Crest and Domaine Ste. Michelle wineries, Woodinville, Wash. He succeeds Jim Clarke, who was promoted to president. Seattle Coffee markets the Seattle's Best and Torrefazione Italia coffee brands, and operates retail cafes.

Stephen Bass to creative director at Omnicom Group brand consultancy unit Interbrand, New York, succeeding Gary Stilovich, who took a leave of absence. Mr. Bass previously was at Saatchi & Saatchi Design, London.
