Pepsi continues 'Star Wars' trek

Pepsi-Cola Co., Purchase, N.Y., next month launches a third TV spot linked to its promotion surrounding "Star Wars: Episode I--The Phantom Menace." The spot will feature spokes-alien Marfalump as a New York taxi driver. Marfalump was created just for the soft-drink ads by Lucasfilm's Industrial Light & Magic. A spot that hit this week shows him trying to impress a date. BBDO Worldwide, New York, handles. Also, Pepsi announced a "Star Wars" link with Nascar star Jeff Gordon, whose Pepsi car has been repainted with a "Phantom Menace" theme. Action Perfor-mance will market a miniature replica of the car. Separately at Pepsi, C.J. Fraleigh, 37, was promoted to VP-colas from director-colas, succeeding Janine Bousquette, who left to become chief marketing officer of eToys.
