PM still opposes ad curbs

Philip Morris Cos., New York, Feb. 29 said its willingness to discuss new Food & Drug Administration restrictions on tobacco doesn't mean it will accept additional ad restrictions. A spokeswoman said that when Senior VP Steven Parrish told reporters for three newspapers yesterday he was willing to discuss additional regulation, he was suggesting the company was open to discussions and wanted to be at the table in any discussion of new tobacco curbs. The spokeswoman said the company still opposes a set of FDA curbs, including additional ad restrictions, that's now before the U.S. Supreme Court, and that while no specific proposals have been discussed, Mr. Parrish had envisioned discussing new restrictions on manufacturing processes and ingredients.
