New president at Infoseek

Infoseek Corp. named Harry Motro president, a new position. Mr. Motro was formerly senior VP of CNN Interactive. Infoseek has lost about five sales and marketing executives in the past few weeks and is said to be shifting its strategy from a consumer-oriented approach to one that focuses more on business markets.

Mr. Motro's sudden departure is a blow to CNN. He was the founder of CNN Interactive, which launched in January 1995 and now oversees Web sites for CNN, CNNfn and AllPolitics. A spokesman said no successor has been named yet. In the interim, Mark Bernstein, VP-business development, and Scott Woelfel, VP-editor in chief, will share management responsibilities.

CNN and Infoseek recently signed an agreement making Infoseek the premier search provider on CNN's sites.
