Seeks to Warn Consumers of ID Theft, Web Safety

WASHINGTON ( -- The Privacy Leadership Initiative is joining with the Radio Advertising Bureau to launch a new public service campaign on consumer privacy.

Three radio spots from WPP Group's Y&R Advertising, New York, address identity theft and online privacy.

One of the spots advises against giving out Social Security numbers, another about not making password choices too obvious and a third advises caution in Internet chat rooms.

The Privacy Leadership Initiative includes representatives of more than a dozen companies and major associations.

Among the companies are Ford Motor Co., IBM, Procter & Gamble Co. and Philp Morris Cos.' Kraft Foods.
