Starcom Creates Two Senior-Level Posts; Optimedia Forms New Unit

NEW YORK ( -- Two Publicis Groupe media networks are ramping up their capabilities, reorganizing management and forming new units.

Starcom USA, Chicago, a unit of Starcom MediaVest Group, has created two new roles, that of chief marketing officer and managing director of investment and operations.

Former Kmart exec
The agency hired Steven Fueling as the marketing chief. Mr. Fueling was with Kmart until March 2003 following a corporate downsizing. He was thge marketer's senior vice president of marketing and the chief marketing officer for its e-tailing site He has also worked at The Walt Disney Co. and Clorox Co. He began March 22.

John Muszynski, who is executive vice president and chief broadcast investment officer, was promoted to the managing director's role. Some of his current responsibilities are being taken on by others in the company's broadcast investment group.

Meanwhile, Optimedia International, New York, part of ZenithOptimedia Group, is forming an emerging-technologies division under Bob Flood, executive vice president and director of national electronic media. The unit will initially have a staff of six to serve clients' growing interest in areas such as the Internet, broadband, digital video recorders and video on demand.

Tech projects
Optimedia has worked on emerging technology projects for a number of marketers, including BMW, L'Oreal and T-Mobile. The company helped T-Mobile make the most of its involvement in the American Music Awards telecast in February, by promoting mobile phone voting.
