Simmons releases new profile of 'net consumer

The median income of online users is $62,100 -- almost twice that of non-Internet users, according to the second annual Consumer Online Usage Study released Tuesday by Simmons Market Research Bureau. Internet consumers are almost evenly split between men and women and 43% have at least graduated college.

The study, which found more people accessing the Internet from home than their workplace, found that almost 12 million people have mad a purchase online during the last 12 months spending an average of $800 per year. Sixteen million plan to purchase goods online in the next 12 months, according to the survey.
