Sprint, Viacom team for Net access

Sprint and Viacom agreed to jointly develop and distribute Internet access products branded under the names of Viacom units including Blockbuster Entertainment Group, Simon & Schuster and Macmillan Publishing USA. The first product of the alliance is expected later this fall.

PointCast Network said it added a new channel from the Chicago Tribune and increased its business/technology content with offerings from Edgar Online, Upside, Quote.com and others. The Tribune channel is expected to go live in December; the other news is available immediately.

Separately, PointCast and Northwest Airlines announced the Get PointCast and Win Northwest Miles Sweepstakes, in which two million Northwest WorldPerks Bonus Miles will be given away. The six-week promotion began Monday and runs through Nov. 22, 1996. Visitors to the PointCast home page can enter the contest by filling out a brief entry form and downloading and registering the free PointCast Network software. The grand prize is 1 million Northwest miles; 10 first prizes are 100,000 miles.
