Supreme Court takes tobacco case

The U.S. Supreme Court, as expected, today agreed to decide in the term that starts in October whether the Food & Drug Administration can regulate tobacco ads. FDA rules that imposed major curbs on tobacco advertising and marketing, including a bar on imagery in magazines reaching those under 18, have been overturned by lower courts. While a subsequent state agreement required removal of tobacco outdoor boards, the FDA's rules went further in limiting print advertising and direct mail.
