Turkcell, Turkey's leading GSM operator, will offer mobile Internet services following an agreement with Sonera Zed, a subsidiary of Finnish telecoms group Sonera Corp.

According to Turkcell, its 10.1 million mobile phone subscribers now have access to Sonera Zed's "personalized information, communication and entertainment services in an easy-to-use format from their mobile phones." Users can access services ranging from airline information, car rentals and lottery results, to details about Istanbul's nightlife.

"Our product set is particularly attractive to the young, dynamic and increasingly urban population who are largely responsible for the rapid growth in the Turkish cellular market, which nearly doubled in size during 2000," says Sonara Zed Chief Executive Juha Varelius.
