U.S. Census Bureau reveals 65% initial response rate

The U.S. Census Bureau said the 2000 census' initial response--the percentage of questionnaires returned before enumerators begin knocking on the doors--was 65%, matching the 1990 rate. One difference from 1990, though, is that this year the bureau is running its first paid advertising, a $100 million-plus campaign, with Y&R Advertising, New York as lead agency.
