Unilever delays media review

Unilever has postponed its $515 million U.S. media review, according to executives close to the situation. Presentations set for this week have now been pushed back until after the upfront. Participants include WPP's Mindshare, Interpublic Group of Cos.' Western Initiative and Omnicom Group's Optimum Media Direction. The incumbent is the Botway Group; Western signed a letter of intent to buy that shop earlier this year. Unilever is said to be hestitating because Mindshare is new to the U.S. and Western hasn't had time to absorb Botway. The review should officially resume in summer 2000. An announcement could come as early as today.
