Univision cites strong upfront sales

Spanish-language Univision Television Network, Los Angeles, reported it took in $297 million in upfront ad sales contracts from 58 advertisers this year, a 49% increase in sales and a 57% increase in advertisers from 1997. Network executives credited heightened advertiser awareness of the growing Hispanic market and increased production values in the Spanish-language programming genre for the increased sales activity. Depending on the daypart, Univision controls between 82% and 87% of the U.S. Spanish-language TV viewing audience.
