USA Latin America relocates to Miami

MIAMI -- Universal Studios Networks is relocating operations for its USA Latin America channel from New York to Miami in an attempt to get closer to its audience and boost its presence in the region.

Mauricio Gerson, formerly VP and general manager, USA Latin America and USA Brazil, has been appointed managing director Universal Studios Networks Latin America & Brazil, adding ad sales to his existing operational role.

The move is expected to consolidate programming and marketing for USA Latin America with the channels' advertising and affiliate sales divisions, which are already in Miami. All USA Latin America's New Yorkbased staff have been asked to relocate to Miami.

However, Barry Frey, managing director, international advertising sales and new business development, will remain in New York. His responsibilities will no longer be targeted to Latin America, says Universal Studios Networks President Tony Garland, but he will continue to seek global advertising for all of the company's channels as well as work in an expanded role in USA Networks' domestic operations.

USA Brazil, a joint venture with GloboSat, will remain in Rio de Janeiro.

"Miami has evolved into a vital cultural and commercial gateway to the very significant Latin American market," says Mr. Garland. "Our increased presence will put us at the very center of activity of the region's television business."
