Fifth Line Extension for World's Largest Soft Drink

BOSTON ( -- The Coca-Cola Co., Atlanta, will launch Vanilla Coke domestically May 15 with an extensive advertising campaign.

A spokesman said no agency has been selected to handle the account, though several have been briefed. He declined to disclose those agencies.

Coca-Cola with a touch of vanilla will roll out in the U.S., with Canada following about a month later. The beverage giant is putting TV, radio, outdoor, point-of-sale and sampling behind the U.S. campaign.

This is the fifth line extension for the world's largest soft drink. Diet Coke was introduced in 1982, followed by Cherry Coke, Diet Cherry Coke and, last year, Diet Coke with Lemon.

Interpublic Group of Cos.' McCann-Erickson, New York, is the brand's lead agency, but sibling Carmichael Lynch, Minneapolis, has produced several spots, and other Interpublic agencies have consulted on the brand.
